Obituary

Wilma Jeane Jackson, 95, of Valley Center died peacefully of natural causes on Aug. 21, 2025, at home with family members.

She was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Wichita to Harold and Glenna (Valdois) Fryar.  She married Robert Jackson on June 16, 1951. She attended Wichita East High School and Wichita State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education, also in June of 1951.

After being a loving mother for their children during their younger years, she worked as a secretary for the Quality Control Division of the Coleman Heating and Air Conditioning Factory. While she and her family lived on the farm in Sunnydale, she helped with farming, gardening and peony flower production for the Sunnydale Peony Farm, while also continuing to raise three children. She obtained a love of music from her mother and taught several piano students while living on the farm. After working at The Coleman Company for 15 years, her dad asked her to care for her mother rather than send her to a nursing home. With help from daughter Nancy, she did this tirelessly for 13 years, until her mother's passing. She then took care of her father for several years until his passing.

She was active in her religion, attending and serving in numerous positions at the 1st and 2nd Churches of Christ, Scientist, Wichita. She dearly loved her church and regularly attended until only a few days before her death.

She also dearly loved family and enjoyed being able to interact with them right until the end. Her keen wit and continued use of humor with family and health care workers was a joy to experience.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Jackson; her parents, Harold and Glenna Fryar; and her brother, Marshall Fryar.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Harimon (Keith) of Valley Center; two sons, Randy (Debbie) Jackson of Valley Center and Tom (Tracy) Jackson of Palm Bay, Florida; and 10 grandchildren Tracy (Michael) Warner, Justin (Jenn) Jackson, Chris (Kristin) Jackson and Erin (Jason) Ritchey, Jamie (Mark) Singley, Josh Jackson, Ali (Brett) Dennison, Jocelyn Harimon, Damian (Keilah) Roberts and Kelli (Suny) Lyons; and 18 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held Sept. 23, with service at 2 p.m., followed by a come-and-go family visitation until 5 p.m. at the Sunnydale Community Building, 10202 N. Hillside (corner of Hillside and 101st North).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be provided to the Second Church of Christ, Scientist, 4501 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218, or Sunnydale Community Welfare Society, c/o Randy Jackson, 2801 E. 101st Street North, Valley Center, KS 67147.
