Obituary

William "Bill" G. McKinley (81), a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Goddard, KS, surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 20, 1943, in Tulsa, OK, to William and Marylin McKinley. Bill always brought a smile to those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished. Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and hard work. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him. His family takes comfort in knowing he is in Heaven with his Savior, reunited with his wife, and that they will see him again.

Bill is survived by his children: Christopher McKinley and wife Debbie of Meridian, ID; Scott McKinley and wife Janessa of Topeka, KS; Marci Bogle and husband Kevin of Wichita, KS; and Jeffrey McKinley and wife Catherine of Manhattan, KS. His legacy lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Keean Bogle; Mitch and Kristin McKinley; Mindy McKinley; Korin Bogle; Samuel McKinley; Mark McKinley; Maci McKinley; Kyden Bogle; and Le'Angelo McKinley. Bill is also survived by his sister, Linda Ramey, and sister -in-law, Myra Burrell, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 58 years, Gayle McKinley; his brother, Chuck McKinley; brothers-in-law, Bob Ramey and Terry Verhage; and sister-in-law, Karen Palmer.

Bill met Gayle while attending Kansas State University. Their love grew for each other, their family, and —most importantly—for their shared faith in Jesus Christ. Over the years, they worked together to help and counsel young people, lead marriage - focused small groups, and host many other Bible studies.

Bill graduated from Kansas State University in 1965 with a degree in civil engineering. He spent 30 years as the traffic engineer for the City of Wichita, KS. He attempted retirement in 1997, but soon after started his own consulting firm, which he ran for five years. He then spent 18 years as the City Engineer of Maize, KS, officially retiring in 2019.

Bill loved to hunt and fish and spent many early mornings enjoying nature with family and friends. He was always building something, with no end to his projects.

Bill was unwavering in his faith. He loved and longed for Jesus - not just for himself, but for all his family and friends to know the eternal security found only in a relationship with Jesus Christ. He even traveled to China with his good friend Steve Miller to share the gospel.
