Obituary

WICHITA, KANSAS
VIRGINIA LEE (RIESEN) COURTRIGHT, passed away on July 28 at the age of 82. She was born in Newton, KS and lived on a farm near Halstead. She is survived by her husband, Bert Courtright; her three daughters: Deanna (Bill) Vincent, Patricia (Art) Smith, and Linda (Daryl) Robillard; six grandchildren: Christopher (Monica) Vincent, Virginia Vincent, Rachel (Jeremy) Gremillion, Taylor (Alison) Robillard, Levi Robillard, and Jesse Robillard; and three great-grandchildren: Sarah, Coleton, and Emma Gremillion. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.  Virginia moved to Wichita at the age of 10 and met her future husband in grade school. She graduated from Wichita North High School. She and Bert Courtright married on February 15, 1953 at the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church. She worked in the mailroom at Sinclair and Phillips 66 Oil while her husband served in the U.S. Army. During their marriage, she and Bert built four homes in Northwest Wichita. While raising their three daughters, she and Bert were foster parents to 63 infants through the Kansas Children's Service League. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and reading.  She returned to employment as a bookkeeper and worked for Georgia Pacific, McCormick Armstrong, Interfaith Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity. In her retirement, she continued to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Trinity Presbyterian Church. She and Bert were members of the Wichita Model A Club. Throughout her life, she was a faithful member of her church.  Her loving devotion to her family will be a lasting legacy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 5 th at 10:00am at New Hope Community Church with a reception to follow. The family requests that memorials be given in her memory to New Hope Community Church, 109 W Main, Valley Center, KS 67147. Baker Funeral Home Valley Center has charge.
