Obituary

Verna Louise (Chadwick) Carter passed away on November 18th at Serenity House in Wichita, Kansas, after a long and wonderful Christian life.  She is survived by four of her children Jim (Gloria), Kenny (Carol), Becky Dimmitt and Mary Popchoke (Randy).  She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lloyd Carter as well as her infant son, Harold.  She is survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.

Verna was born on February 21, 1927 in Gosper County, Nebraska.  She graduated from Arapahoe High School and after teacher training, taught in a one room county school house.  After WWII, Lloyd Carter returned to this area.  Soon after, they were married and blessed with 5 kids over the next 10 years.

After a string of severe draught years, the family moved to the Valley Center area in 1956.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Valley Center and the Homebuilders Sunday School Class until her death.  She was involved in being a 4-H project leader, Sweet Adelines and volunteered many years at the Main Steet Threads clothing store downtown Valley Center.  She also served as a substitute teacher in the Haysville and Sedgwick School Districts as well as working many hours as a devoted farm wife.

Verna was known as a kind, gentle, hard-working woman who loved friends, family, and her church.

Service will be held at the Methodist Church on November 24th at 10:30 a.m. with viewing at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held in Arapahoe Cemetery, Arapahoe, Nebraska, on November 25 at 10:30 a.m.  A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church, 560 N. Park, Valley Center, KS 67147 .
