Matney, Therold F., retired Wichita Police Officer, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012. He was born in Fall River, Kansas, to Neville Franklin Matney and Leona Mae (Charbomeau) Matney. He was a graduate of Altoona-Midway High School with the Class of 1956. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He worked as a detective and in security throughout his career. He retired from the Wichita P.D. and was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the American Legion, Buffalo Historical Society, National Rifle Association and Retired Police Officers Association. He is survived by his daughter, Malinda Matney of Ann Harbor, Michigan; son, Therold "Thad" Matney of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Clifford Matney, Thelbert and Linda Matney; sisters, Twilla Chishom, Carolyn (Gerald) Kleier, Charlene (Bruce) Roby, Arlene Mayes, Neva James; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his lifetime partner, Charlotte Hawkins; parents, Neville and Leona Matney; brothers, Floyd, Bernard and Marlon Matney and sister, Thelma Pfiefer. Graveside Service, 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, at Fredonia City Cemetery, Fredonia, Kansas.
