Obituary

Sandra Gayle Kliewer (November 9, 1956 - November 9, 2025)

Faithful wife. Wonderful mother. Cherished grandmother.

Sandra Gayle (Griffith) Kliewer, 69, of Enid, OK, died after an extended fight with COPD on Sunday, November 9, 2025, in McPherson, Kansas. She passed in her home while surrounded by her children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and dogs.

She was born in Amarillo, Texas, on November 9, 1956, to Melvin Donald Griffith and Velma (Skeeter) Lee Griffith (McDonald), who lived on a ranch outside Wildorado, Texas.

After living briefly on a ranch near Chamberlain, South Dakota, Sandi grew up in Northwest Oklahoma. She attended most of grade school in Woodward before moving to Gage, where she graduated from Gage High School in 1975. While in high school, Sandi enjoyed choir and loved basketball, where she was named "Best Offensive Basketball Player" and crowned Basketball Queen.

After a semester at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Sandi held a few jobs as a young adult–at the Levi's factory in Amarillo, a jewelry store in Stillwater, and, notably, at various Sonics where she helped open new drive-ins for her relatives.

She married Arthur Merlin Kliewer in Enid on November 18, 1979. She lived most of her adult life in and around Enid, including living outside of Drummond in the late 90's. While raising her daughters, Sandi worked primarily as a homemaker and sometimes cleaned houses for older ladies. Later, she operated two different bars: The Drawworks at the Best Western and The Springhill Suites Lounge, both in Enid. No matter what job she held, she took pride in caring for her customers and coworkers.

During their retired years, Sandi and Art lived in a large home just west of Enid off Imo Road. They hosted many family events there and particularly enjoyed playing with their grandchildren in the beautiful pool.

For her last couple of years of life, Sandi lived in McPherson, KS, with her daughter Asia and family for health reasons.

Sandi loved to be outside whether it was growing flowers and gourds, taking her children camping, or burning a stump. Her favorite color was blue, or maybe green, or maybe purple–but definitely not red. She loved rocks, weiner dogs, dream catchers, and tiny trinkets. She liked doing puzzles and beating her brother at Acey Duecy. Sandi loved to paint homes and to craft. She made ceramics, cross-stitched pictures, and turned her gourds into bird houses. Sandi especially loved to watch basketball and was often joined by her children and grandchildren while doing so. Sandi's favorite food was Braum's milk, and her favorite drink was a Sonic Coke. Sandi was a night owl who liked to visit, poke a fire, and look at the stars.

Sandi loved her grandkids more than any of these things and was active in their lives with encouragement, advice, snacks, and only an occasional scolding.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Kliewer and her brother Patrick Griffith; She is survived by her daughters Brittany Glasscock of Enid; and Asia Embers and wife Laura of McPherson, KS; seven grandchildren: Owen and Camilla Glasscock, Abilene and Ellis Frye, and Jacob, Ash, and Liam Hale; step-mother June Griffith of Mooreland; brother Don Griffith and wife Leslie of Enid; sister Mona Ford of Mooreland; sister-in-law Sandra Griffith of Gage; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 21, at Salem United Methodist Church in Drummond, OK.

Sandi was an animal lover and never turned away a stray. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Enid SPCA, 1116 Overland Trail, Enid, OK 73703 or online  www.enidspca.org.
