Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Irene Giffin, 82, of Sedgwick, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026, surrounded by a lifetime of love she had given so freely to others. Born in Wichita, Kansas, on August 3, 1944, Sandy was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and friend. To know Sandy was to know how deeply she loved her family and how much joy she found in simply being together.

Sandy was preceded in death by her mother, Blanche Irene (Calvin) Girod; her father, Wade Girod; her Step-Father William Bobb; her husband, Jim Giffin; and her brothers, Ronald Wade Girod and Irenus “Rene” Girod III.

She is survived by her sons, Jason Giffin, Kent Giffin, Cort and Kristi Giffin, and Jerrod and Jamie Giffin; her grandchildren, Jordan, Tanner, Olivia, Dodger, Cassidy, Hunter, Morgan, Claudia, Nick, Bella, Gage, Regan and Carly; and her great-grandchildren, Rudy, Gatlin, Franklin, Wellin, Oliver, Dawson, Georgia, Amelia, Luisa, Elodie, and Witten; brothers Tim Bobb and James Courtney; many other family and friends.

More than anything, Sandy loved her family. Being a mom and grandma was one of the greatest joys of her life. She loved family get-togethers, holidays, and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She was there for the school activities, celebrations, milestones, and all the ordinary moments in between that somehow become the memories you treasure the most.

Sandy had a way of showing her love by taking care of people. She loved cooking and baking, making jelly, tending to her vegetable garden, and knitting prayer shawls for her church. There was always something being made, grown, baked, or shared with someone she cared about.

She also truly loved her life in the country. The peaceful quiet of her days and nights at home meant so much to her. One of her favorite things was simply looking out her kitchen window and watching the birds, goats, and deer. Those small, peaceful moments always brought a smile to her face. She didn't need anything fancy to be happy. Home, family, faith, and the beauty around her were enough.

There was an incredible amount of energy, happiness, laughter, wisdom, and love packed into Sandy's five-foot-tall frame. She may have been small, but her personality, strength, and love filled every room she entered. Sandy had a presence that cannot be replaced, and no one will ever quite be able to fill her shoes.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2026 at the Plymouth Congregational Church, 402 N. Commercial, Sedgwick, Kansas.
