Roy Milton Engle, was born August 8, 1933 in Lusk, Wyoming. He was the middle child of Robert and Esther (Upton) Engle. He had an older brother, Lyle Engle, and a younger sister, Mildred (Engle) Crow. All preceded him in leaving this earth. He was also preceded by his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Roy & Marjorie Schoemaker, Darrell White and Sharon Weber, son-in-laws Jerry Miller and David Potter.
He attended schools at Enterprise, Kansas from second grade through High School. He always loved sports of all kinds and lettered four years in football, basketball and track.
His wife of over 70 years, Wilma (Weber) was a classmate starting in fifth grade. He was blessed with a son, Glenn David, who died from terminal cancer in 2016, and four daughters -- Rebecca Miller, Patricia (Dan) Newman, Kathryn A. Christiansen, and Barbara J. Potter. He loved them all dearly as well as his ten grandchildren - Heather Beamer, Adena Potter, Hannah Purcell, Janie Gieschen, Mark Christiansen, Malissa Doud, Kayla Newman, David 'Eli' Potter, Erin Newman, John Newman and step-grandson, Dan Saft II. All of their spouses were also very special and he appreciated them giving him 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Roy never met a stranger and loved to talk, while he was able. He loved music and transitioned to his heavenly home while listening to Alan Jackson sing "When the Roll is Called up Yonder", one of his favorite hymns, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
Visitation is 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center. Service is 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20 at Meridian Ave. Baptist Church, 200 N. Meridian, Wichita, Ks. Graveside following at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11800 W US-54, Wichita, Ks.
Memorials may be designated in his memory to: Shriners Hospital for Children (donate.lovetotherescue.org) and Meridian Avenue Baptist Church (mymabc.com).
