WICHITA, KANSAS  formerly of Syracuse, Kansas

RONALD RAY EWY , 'RON' , 68, loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born Coldwater, Kansas to Ray Victor Ewy and Josephine Pearl (Jantzen) Ewy. He was raised in the Syracuse, Kansas area where he attended school and was a 1968 graduate of Syracuse High School. After graduation he attended Hutchinson Community College, Adams State University where he received his Bachelor Degree and Masters Degree, and Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he received his second Masters Degree. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Carolyn Schafer in 1972. They raised their family in Syracuse. Ron retired after 38 years of serving the Syracuse school district, yet most importantly challenging students to reach higher dreams, often helping them to accomplish it.

Ron is survived by his wife Carolyn; daughters, Rachelle Ewy and Raegen (Heath) Westeman; grandchildren Ava and Grayson Westeman; brother Randy (Lorra) Ewy all of Wichita, Kansas; nephews Adam (Sarah) Ewy of El Dorado and Kyle (Laura) Ewy, of Wichita; in-laws, Risa (Dennis) DeVaney of Garden City, Gwen (Roger) Chance of Olathe, Rebecca (David) Adams of Cape Girardeau, MO, Kevin (Kathy) Schafer of Aurora, CO and Kyle (Cindy) Schafer of Denver, CO; aunts, Betty Ewy of Coldwater, Mary Lou Ewy of Dodge City and Carol (Milton) Kingsley of Arkansas City; many nephews, nieces, other family, friends and students. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray & Jo Ewy; grandparents, Rudolph & Lizzie Ewy, Allen & Viola Jantzen; uncles Ben Ewy, Gene Ewy & Wallace Jantzen; aunts Faye Rudd & Ruby Ewy; and parents-in-law Ray & LaVerda Schafer.

Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, at The Barney Akers Gymnasium, W. Ave 'C', Syracuse, Kansas. Memorials may be designated in his memory to the 'Ron Ewy Memorial Scholarship Fund'. Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com
