Obituary

NEWTON, KANSAS

RODNEY JAMES STUBBY, 77, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018. He was born in Hillsboro, Kansas to Jacob B. Stubby and Edna (Unruh) Stubby. He was a graduate of Canton High School. He worked as a lineman, repairman, switchman and had a wide range of knowledge with the Southwestern Bell Company where he retired after 32 years and 8 months. He married the love of his life, Janice, on August 2, 1975. Rod enjoyed working on his own home, going to auctions, tractor pulls, and riding around the countryside critiquing the farmer's farming techniques. He also enjoyed music and dancing which included going to bluegrass festivals and gospel singing. After health limited his activities, he enjoyed his westerns, Matlock, and his front porch built to surprise him after a hospitalization. But his greatest love was being with his family and enjoying family time spent together. Rod is survived by his wife Janice; son Jared and wife Chrissy Stubby; grandchildren Elisa and Kaylee Stubby; brothers and sisters, Donovan (Doris), Helen (Rex), Loren, and Jerry (Sharon); many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, Gilmer, Earl, Janet, and Lila. Memorials may be designated in his memory to the American Legion Post 2, 400 S.
