Obituary

Roberta Dorean Stafford, 82, of Valley Center, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, in Valley Center.

Roberta was born in Newton, Kansas, to Bob and Chloe (Morland) Stone. She made Valley Center her lifelong home, where she built her and her families.

After graduating from North High School, Roberta began her career at Van Gundy Real Estate. She later chose to stay home to raise her children while cleaning houses on the side. Once Bobby and Terri started school, she joined Valley Offset Printing before eventually working in the main office for the Wichita Public School District, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Roberta never met a stranger. She loved spending time with people and was happiest surrounded by family and friends. She enjoyed attending Wichita Wings and hockey games, coaching youth soccer through AYSO, and was an active member of the Red Hat Society. She loved playing cards, especially Pitch, trying her luck at the casino, and making memories with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Stafford, and her parents Bob and Chloe Stone.

Roberta is survived by her children, Bobby (Deanna) Stafford and Terri (Aaron) Saylor; her brother, Ronald Stone; and her beloved grandchildren: Jacob Stafford (Morgan) and their children, Briton and Aria; Rachel Stafford (Cody Hibbs) and their children, Riley, Lilah, and Makayla; Lisa Williams and her daughter, Thea; Kaylee Jurado (John) and their son, Leo; Kelsey Watson (fiancé Tristan Kahler); Shelby Stafford; Jessie Stafford; Chandler Rausch; and Ellie Rausch; other family and friends.

Shelby and the other grandchildren remember Halloween at Grandma's house, where the last stop of the night always meant taking home all of the leftover candy. Rachel and Jacob will always smile remembering how she answered the phone with her signature, "Mmmm... yellow," a greeting that became a family joke. Kaylee cherishes the day she asked Grandma if they could pray together after she moved in with family. Roberta quietly closed her eyes and listened as Kaylee prayed over her, a memory that remains especially meaningful. Of course, Grandma also appreciated the occasional piece of sneaked chocolate. Bobby fondly remembers taking his mom to the shop, where the guys looked forward to visiting with her, especially Jason Kelley, who never missed the chance to ask when they were finally going dancing. In her later years, Roberta was blessed by the faithful friendship of Faith Dawson, who checked on her daily while she lived on Albert and later visited her several times each week.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. with the Funeral service 10:00 a.m. at Valley Christian Church, 1801 E. Fifth St, Valley Center, Kansas.  Graveside will immediately follow at the Hillside Cemetery - Sedgwick, Kansas.

Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort knowing she is reunited with those who went before her. Her kindness, sense of humor, unwavering love for her family, and the countless memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
