Koster, Dr. Robert A., 89, passed away Monday, December 23, 2013. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri in 1924 to Leo A. Koster and Mary Ann (Sadler) Koster. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946 at Aiea Naval Hospital taking care of wounded soldiers after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In March of 1946 he married his love Betty Dorman. Robert pursued his dream of becoming a physician working his way through college and medical school while raising a family. He practiced general medicine in Park City, Wichita and Valley Center. "Doc" gave generously of his time to the communities where he lived by serving on the School Board, being Team Physician to two high schools, coaching boys little league, serving as Commander for the VFW Post 3371 and serving on the Board of the Osteopathic Hospital. In retirement, Robert and Betty traveled to Florida for the winters and Doc pursued his love for reading and gardening. He lovingly cared for his wife of 67 years until his health this year no longer allowed. The world has lost a rare and amazing treasure of a man. He is preceded in death by his father Leo Koster, mother Mary Koster Hill, step-father James Hill and brother Lawrence Hill. He is survived by his wife Betty; daughters Elizabeth (Del) Wilson of Valley Center and Tamara (Richard) Gross of Wichita; grandchildren Greg (Sharon) Gross of Las Vegas, NV, Kara (Chad) Beaulieu of Valley Center, Scott (Patty) Gross of Fort Worth, TX and Brandon (Tricia) Wilson of Andover; great grandchildren Corinne, Landon, Samuel, Timothy, Kaylee and Elora Gross, Bradon, Mason and Presley Beaulieu, Banks and Blake Wilson; many other family colleagues and friends. Memorials may be designated to the Valley Center Memorial Library, 321 W. First, Valley Center, Ks 67147 and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, Ks 67202.
