Finkbiner, Robert Eugene, 77, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012. He was born in Clifton, Kansas to Elmer Leonard Finkbiner and Margaret Elizabeth (Long) Finkbiner. After graduating from Clifton High School and briefly attending Kansas University, he was a Naval Aviator with the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.). After his term was completed, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department for a short time. Returning to Kansas, he earned his BS in Business at Kansas State University, and later received his MS from Oklahoma University. Robert worked for both Gulf and Mobile Oil companies in Oklahoma City for several years. He than left Oklahoma to take the position of Assistant Director of Planning for the Urban Renewal Agency in Wichita. In the mid-1980s he accepted the position of City Administrator in Oberlin, Kansas. In 1989 he returned to the Wichita area as the City Administrator in Valley Center, Kansas, where he retired in 2000. After retirement he volunteered at the Lord's Diner, Kansas Humane Society, and St. Jude Catholic Church. He was also a Master Gardener with the Sedgwick County Extension Office. Robert's survivors include his wife, Jana (Sibley); brothers Carl (Esther) and Elmer (Tanis) of Clifton; John (Mary) of Salina; sisters Carol (Frank) Dauksch of Wichita, and Marjorie (Stephen) Pfister of Manhattan. Other survivors are daughter Glynnis Watson, Scottsdale, Arizona; and son Robert Craig Finkbiner of Ardmore, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved pets Oliver, Opie and Suzie. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 3030 N. Amidon, Wichita, Kansas.
