Obituary

Richard Don Patterson entered into Heaven on May 29, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas.

Richard was born to Ray and Jean Patterson and spent most of his life in Wichita's North End, where he built lasting relationships and cherished memories with family and friends.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1973 to 1975. During his military service, he graduated while stationed in the State of Washington in 1975. In recognition of his dedication and service, he was awarded the Marksman Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He enjoyed life's simple pleasures. In his spare time, he could often be found watching his favorite western movies, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, playing scratch lottery tickets, or enjoying games on his phone. Above all else, Richard treasured spending time with his family and his beloved cats, who brought him great comfort and companionship.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Jean Patterson, and his grandparents, Newt and Nancy Franklin.

Richard is survived by his sisters, Dana White (Marvin) and Diana Patterson; his brother, Francis "Tony" Patterson (Cassandra); his nieces, Angela Garcia (Gonzalo), Fawn Pyle (Robert), Christina Fee (Danny), Jacquita Wieser, and Melissa Harts (Greg); and his nephew, Vincent Altum (Victoria). He also leaves behind numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory and the time they shared with him.

Richard will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, his devotion to his country, and the joy he found in everyday moments. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace and reunited with those who went before him.
