PHILLIP HOWARD SCHMIDT, 76, retired Heavy Equipment Operator / Welder, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. He was born August 9, 1939 in Hillsboro, Kansas, to Irvin C. and Evelyn L. (Pierce) Schmidt. Phil was a 1958 graduate of Durham High School, Durham, Kansas. For most of his life he was a heavy equipment operator and welder working road construction. On May 23, 2000 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, he married the love of his life Kathleen (Delk) Schmidt. He is survived by his children Darrin W. Schmidt (Bette-Jo Freeman) of Wichita, Aimee D. Davis of Wichita, and stepson Dwight (Crystal) Johnson of Hillsboro, Kansas; grandchildren Brooke Phillips, Hunter Davis, Alekzander Davis and Patrick Johnson; great grandchildren Damien Phillips, Dominick Phillips, Kathleen Johnson and Adeline Johnson; brothers Don (Linda) Schmidt of Norfolk, Nebraska and James Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Schmidt, parents Irvin and Evelyn Schmidt and sister's family Willard and Mary (Schmidt) Dahl and children Jean and Stephen Dahl.
