Dow
June 3, 1937 – August 24, 2025
Nelda June Dow, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025 in Mt. Hope, Kansas.
She was born on Thursday, June 3, 1937 in Pueblo, Colorado to J.B. and Alice McCaskill. She graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1955 and then attended two years of business college.
On October 7, 1956 she Married Irvin D. Dow in Mt. Hope, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2014. She was a stay-at-home mom until the early seventies when she went to work for General Electric Corporation in Wichita as a major appliance repair dispatcher. After her retirement from GE in the early 1990's she moved back to Mt. Hope to be close to her parents.
She had so many loves of life. She loved to bake, can whatever was in season, quilt, knit and so many more things but her biggest accomplishment was her amazing talent as an oil paint artist. She was often known as "feisty" and opinionated. If it came to her mind it came out of her mouth. She had such a big wonderful full laugh. What a way to live!!!!
She loved to travel. Her favorite was her trips to Panama City Beach, FL to enjoy her friends that lived there, sit on the white sandy beaches and eat the delicious food but her "Happy Place" was her deck with all of her hand planted pots of flowers each year.
She is survived by her daughter Leslie (Bob) White, Sterling, KS, her sons Douglas (Dana) Dow, Wichita, KS and Anthony (Heather) Dow, Sterling, KS, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, her brothers Larry (Cindy) McCaskill and Dwayne (Lori) McCaskill, her sister Nona (Bob) Perriman, her sister-in-law Patti McCaskill and numerous nieces and nephews and more friends than anyone could ask for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Loretta Lewis and Barbara McCaskill-Harper, her brothers Jay McCaskill and Don McCaskill, brother-in-law Merwin Lewis and sister-in-law Marilyn McCaskill.
A Celebration of her awesome life will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 400 W. Main in Mt. Hope, Kansas.
She will be dearly and deeply missed.
