Michel Alan Straub
, 75, retired accountant, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas at VA Hospital, losing his battle to cancer. He was born September 3, 1945 in Granville, NSW, Australia to Sylvester and Shirley (Freeman) Straub. He landed by ship on US soil in California June 9, 1946. From there he went to Claflin, Kansas then later moved to Ellinwood and attended school there. He served in US Army then attended WSU, graduating with an accounting degree. Later, he traveled to Russia with Peace Corp. Loved watching all sports, especially Shockers and KC Chiefs, and playing Black Jack at the Casinos. Always had a bit of advice and memories to share. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Straub and Shirley Kafka; siblings, Christopher and Brian.
Michel is survived by his daughter, Lori Cross and grandson, Harrison; children, Terry, Diane and Rick Wirtz; brothers, Tim (Becky), Steve (Brenda), Kevin (Carol) and Randy (Nancy); sisters, Ali (Steve) Bohannan, Annie (Mark) Davis and Crystal Straub; also loved by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be designated in his name to the Robert J. Dole VA Center, 5500 E. Kellogg, Wichita, Ks 67218
Rosary 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 9th and Mass 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10th, both held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4411 W Maple, Wichita, Kansas. He will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery in Claflin, Kansas on Tuesday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m.
