Michael Dean Hollowell, 66 passed away November 6, 2023.
Michael grew up in Johnson City TN. He graduated from Science Hill High School in 1975 where he excelled in academics, football and wrestling teams. Michael received his BBA at East Tennessee State University, Cum Laude and his CPA credentials from the State of Tennessee. He worked for Blackburn and Childers, CPA while attending college. He was hired as the Comptroller for the City of Johnson City, TN before moving to Wichita, KS in 1982, to work for his uncle, Ronald Johnson and Darryl Duncan's accounting firm: Johnson and Duncan, CPA. After 3 years Michael was made partner. The firm became Johnson, Duncan, and Hollowell, CPA. Michael's son Matthew joined the firm in 2007. Michael has been helping people with their accounting services for 41 years. Michael's great joy in life was being with his family whether it was Sunday family dinners, visiting outside on his patio or deck or gathered around the TV watching his beloved Tennessee Volunteer football team. Michael absolutely couldn't wait for the first Vol's game of each new football season every year. Michael was also an avid fan of the Wichita State Shocker basketball team and Kansas City Chiefs.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis Gilmore Hollowell and Kenneth Hollowell.
Michael is survived by his spouse of 40 years, Joyce Washburn Hollowell, son Matthew R. Hollowell (Anna Means Hollowell), granddaughter. Alla M. Hollowell all of Wichita, siblings, David Hollowell (Sara) of Greeneville, TN and Ronald Hollowell (Fran) of Kernersville, NC, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Honorable Lee Johnson and Donna Johnson of Caldwell, KS, plus many nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts and Uncles.
Michael's wish was to not have any services. He will be cremated, and ashes buried in Joyce's hometown of Caldwell, KS at the Caldwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to American Diabetes Association.
