Obituary

WICHITA, KS formerly of Bazine, Ks
DeWald, Melford Dale, 84, retired Ness City Jr. and Sr. High Schools Math Teacher and retired farmer and cattleman, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013. He served as a Ness County Commissioner for 8 years and also was on the CDC, which focused on economic development in Western Kansas counties. He was born in rural Bazine, Ness County, Kansas to Reuben S. DeWald and Mattie Mae (Staley) DeWald. He married Ruthye Jo Keil. He was a member of the Lions Club and was a life-long church member, including Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Wichita. He loved and enjoyed his family, farming, students and friends and traveling to Kauai. Melford is survived by his daughters, LuAnn (Bobby) Rodriquez of Goddard and Carole DeWald of Wichita; grandchildren, R'endi Rodriquez, Bobby Sue Rodriquez, Michael Rodriquez and Kayla Rodriquez; sisters, LaVera Lee of Wichita and Coralee (Wallie) Thornburg of Utica; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruthye Jo DeWald, son Mark Douglas DeWald , parents Reuben and Mattie DeWald, and sister Clarice DeWald. Services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 3515 S. Elizabeth Ave., Wichita, Kansas 67217. Burial following the service at Greenwood Cemetery, Oatville, In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association, 608 W. Douglas S-100, Wichita, Ks 67203. Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kansas.
