WICHITA
Melba Lee (May) Dater, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014. She was born in Crossroads, Arkansas to Elza May and Gertha (Hearn) May. She was a graduate of Calico Rock High School, Calico Rock, Arkansas. Melba is survived by her husband John Dater; daughter, Gwenda Vandaveer of Wichita, stepson Johnny (Karen) Dater of Sedgwick; step-grandchildren Keith (Camissa) Dater of Wichita, Kristie (Brad) Hill of Sedgwick, John Nold of Sedgwick, Justin Nold of Wichita; 6 step-great grandchildren; brother Cleman May of Springfield, MO; sister Clara Copeland of Wichita; sister-in-law Lucy Dater of Denver, CO; niece Rhonda Smith and her family; many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Hughes, grandson Zachary Dry and her parents Elza and Gertha May. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Lung Association, 2024 Woodlawn Ste 114, Wichita, Ks 67208. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, with viewing before at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center. Graveside following the service at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, Kansas.
