WICHITA, KANSAS
MARYBELLE (BANDERET) PURBAUGH, age 94, passed away on March 15, 2016 at her home in Wichita, Kansas only 2 ½ months after her husband's passing. Marybelle was born in the family home in Paxton, Nebraska on January 3, 1922, the daughter of Harry & Ella Banderet. She had three brothers (Francis, Ralph & Harry, who they calledBuddy) and two sisters (Ruth & Dorothy). She attended and graduated school in Paxton, Nebraska. In 1940, she married Leonard Radel Sr. and to that union four children were born; Marlene Kay, Cheryl Lee, Sandra Joann and Leonard Eugene. She and several of her children moved to California. While there, Marybelle married Oliver Purbaugh on November 15, 1964 and they later moved to Nebraska and lived on the farm south of Paxton for 10 years. They moved to South Dakota in 1974, where they ranched and thoroughly enjoyed life in the Black Hills. Late in 1988, they once again moved. This time to retire in Wichita, Kansas. They enjoyed retirement and were very involved in their church. During retirement they took several very memorable trips, one to Trinidad, West Indies and the other to visit their granddaughter, Annette, and her family in Alaska. Marybelle loved crocheting. Her handwork was perfect and she made and gave away many baby blankets, baby clothes, and other items that were treasured by those who received them. She worked hard, helping Bud restore Model Ts, doing the upholstery work. You could often hear her whistling while she worked. Sometimes she even whistled to accompany the singing at their church services. She was an excellent cook and one of the best little pie & gingersnap cookie makers around!! She received blue ribbons for her canned goods at the Fairs she entered. Marybelle had such a fun gentle spirit. Anyone who spent time with her will remember her for those precious moments when she got tickled and would break into giggles that filled up the whole room with sweet laughter. Marybelle enjoyed attending many baby showers, cookie exchange events, and fellowship dinners with her church family. She became very close to her stepdaughter, Betty Meacham, as Betty was always there ready to take the folks to fun events like the State Fair or everyday appointments. In later years, Betty bought their groceries, picked up prescriptions, then finally organized home health care around the clock, paying bills and selflessly giving of herself. We so appreciate Meals on Wheels for bringing food for several years, the loving home health care given by Pat Belt, their dear neighbor and friend; all the other excellent care givers and Hospice nurses. We are ever thankful to them. Marybelle was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings. Most recently her husband, Oliver (Bud) Purbaugh passed away January 1, 2016. She is survived by her children; Marlene (George) Windfelder of Rowland Heights, California; Cheryl (Ron) Haberkorn of Arvada, Colorado; Sandra (Ernest) Whitaker of San Antonio, Texas; and Leonard Radel of Arvada, Colorado; step-children Betty Meacham of Wichita, Kansas; Nancy (Jim) Palmer of Brighton, Colorado; Janet Miller of Lewellen, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren , 5 step-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren and 1 step great-great granddaughter. Marybelle and Bud will both be remembered for their love for one another. They will be terribly missed by family, friends and their wonderful neighbors.
