Martha (Hosek)
Hanson
March 13, 2020
MARTHA ANN (HOSEK) HANSON was born January 25, 1939, in Clutier, Iowa, to Louie and Marie Hosek. Martha was the oldest of three children. She lived on a farm by Clutier with her parents, sister, Helen, and brother, Danny. Martha attended the local country school and graduated from the eighth grade. Then she attended high school at Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa where she graduated in 1957. Martha then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she attended Union College. She graduated two years later with a certificate in teaching. While in college, she met Merlin (Bud) James Hanson at his going away party as he left for military service. Even though they only met once, there was a connection. The two wrote to each other the whole time Bud was in the service. After college, Martha began teaching school in Ruthven, Iowa. She taught the school year of 1959 -1960. Bud and Martha were married August 14, 1960, in Toledo, Iowa. They lived in Moline, Illinois, for nine months while Martha completed her teaching contract; then moved to Fullerton, Nebraska, where Bud worked as a farmer and Martha continued to teach school. Their first son, Steven James Hanson, was born April 17, 1962, in Fullerton, Nebraska. One year later, the family moved near Clutier, Iowa, where Bud and Martha began farming. Their second son, Kenneth Dean Hanson, was born November 11, 1963, in Waterloo, Iowa. Their third child, Richard Allen Hanson, was born December 9, 1968, in Waterloo, Iowa. Martha loved country living and loved her family. She enjoyed gardening and was a hard worker. Bud and Martha remained on the farm until they moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1994. Martha then worked in food service for the Wichita Public School System for nineteen years. She finally retired in 2011. Martha was a life-long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She loved being a part of the Wichita South Church family. She had a passion for serving in the Dorcas Community Center and had a deep love and bond with each of the ladies with whom she served. She loved the Lord and learned to trust in the Lord for all things. Her faith in her loving Lord remained strong to the end. She rests in the Lord, waiting for the great resurrection and reunion that the Lord has planned for us. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Marie Hosek, and her husband, Bud Hanson. Martha is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Steven and Becky Hanson of Katy, Texas; Ken and Melissa Hanson of Gentry, Arkansas; and Rich and Jennifer Hanson of Hickman, Nebraska; grandchildren Austin (wife, Chardet), Nicole, Jade, Matthew, Jonathan, Krista, Febby, and Nickolas; sister, Helen, and Jim Foster of Knoxville, Iowa; and brother, Danny Hosek of The Villages, Florida. Martha passed away Friday, March 13 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Martha was a very loving and caring woman who will be greatly missed. Let us each follow her example, preparing our hearts to be ready to join her when our Lord returns.
