MARION ROBERT SHUMAN
89 years old, passed away on October 8, 2015 at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. He was born in El Dorado, Kansas to LeRoy Shuman and Crela Avis (Hix) Shuman. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. He grew up in El Dorado, Kansas and attended elementary through High School and was a 1943 graduate of El Dorado High School. He joined the U.S. Navy to fight during World War II where he was stationed at several Naval air bases across the Pacific as they were taken back from the Japanese. His last duty was on board the aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Bairoko CVE-115. He was a machinists mate and attained the rank of Second Class. He was Honorably discharged from active duty February, 1947 and returned to El Dorado where he enrolled at Butler County Community College and went on to attend Wichita State University. He completed his schooling and received a Certificate in Refrigeration. He then started his business, Shuman Refrigeration Co., which he ran until retirement. Marion is a member of the Church of Christ of El Dorado, and was a Chaplin for the El Dorado American Legion for 35 years. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW of El Dorado and the American Legion of El Dorado. He belonged to the "Old time Fiddlers and Pickers" of the El Dorado Senior Center. Also a member of the "Chisholm Trail Seniors" of Park City Senior Center.
He is survived by his daughter Karen (Rick) Weekley of Marietta, GA; granddaughter Heather (Kyle) Tranow of Madison, WI; grandson David (Natalie) Weekley of Houston, TX; great granddaughters Samantha Tranow and Sidney Tranow; brother Dean Shuman and his wife Erika of Lubbock, TX; sister Velva Lee Dublin of San Angelo, TX; nephews Rick (Amy) Dublin of CO, and Hal Shuman of Dallas, TX; nieces Rebecca Geis and Dee Anne Willis, both of Dallas, TX; cousins Warren (Debbie) Ford of Kansas City, MO and Ron (June) Ford of Haysville, KS; companion and caregiver Agnes "Aggie" Marie Dry; extended family: Michael (Lillie) Steiner Sr., Bob (Debbie) Dry Jr., Michael (Dwan) Steiner Jr. and their daughters Carley and Abbey, Michael and Sheilah Smallwood Jr. and their children Grant, Briana and Alyssa; many other family and friends. Friend and Pastor Paul Shellhorn will be officiating at the graveside service with military honors at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 14 at Sunset Cemetery, El Dorado, Kansas.
