Obituary

NEWTON, KANSAS

MARILYN JUNE (EMSLEY) BETTS , age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday October 27 at Asbury Park in Newton after a long battle with chronic lung disease. She was born April 1, 1938 to Howard Allen Emsley and Gladys (Loader) Emsley in Worcester Massachusetts. She grew up in Grafton Massachusetts, and graduated from Abbot Academy in Andover Massachusetts. She went on to graduate from Wellesley College, and later obtained a Masters Degree from the University of Florida, and a PHD in law from George Mason University. She practiced law specializing in trademark research, eventually starting her own law firm in Alexandria, and later Manassas Virginia. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed movies of all sorts during her spare time. She was also a lover of all creatures, and rescued dozens of pets throughout her lifetime. She had a generous heart, and would often give gifts to family and friends for any occasion. She is survived by her two sons, Jon (Maria) of Richmond, Virginia, and Tim (Cindy) of Hesston, Kansas, and four grandchildren, Clara and Alex of Richmond, and Jordan and Jessica of Hesston. She was preceded in death by her parents Howard Allen Emsley, and Gladys Loader Emsley, and by her brother Howard Emsley Jr.

There will be no public funeral services by Marilyn's request. A private memorial dinner will be held to honor her life for immediate family members. Burial will follow at a future date at the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Grafton Massachusetts.
