Obituary

VALLEY CENTER, KANSAS

LUCILLE (MILLER) BOTTS, 97 years, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. She was born in Durham, Kansas on January 31, 1921 to William and Isabelle (Funk) Miller. She went to Durham schools through 8th grade graduation. In order to continue her high school years, she would have to live with her grandparents in Herrington, so she chose to stay home. Her family moved close to Furley, Kansas on a farm where her Dad worked for the Farmer. She went to work as a clerk at Service Supreme Market in Valley Center owned by A.D. and Fanny Botts. There she met their son Raymond. They were married on July 3, 1938. They lived with A.D. and Fanny at Second and Meridian until their house was built at Fourth and Meridian. Their house was built by A.G. Stauffer who lived next door. Then in 1950 they built a house on South Meridian with 10 acres. They started a peony farm in 1954. Cultivated and cut peonies from 10,000 plants for wholesale and retail Memorial Day until 1989. Raymond went to heaven in 1991 – God had it all planned out! We are so blessed mother was able to stay in her home. She was alert, paid all her bills right up to the last. She drove her car and went to church every Sunday until about 5 years ago. Since then she has went to First Church in her living room at 11:00 every Sunday. We have been able to care for her at her home. She loved for us to eat with her, and she paid the bills, sent out cards to friends and played Yahtzee every chance she got it. God has blessed us and we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. She is survived by her daughter Darlene (Marvin) Richards, son Howard (Joyce) Botts, daughter Kathy Baker, all of Valley Center; grandchildren, Steve Richards, Gary (Dianna) Richards, Marlena (Tim) Volkmann, Shawn (Jackie) Stine, Dan Stine, Brian (Carrie) Botts, Brad (Karen) Botts, Brenda (Jim) Tatman, Richard Botts, Tamara Schmitt; great grandchildren Brock Volkmann, Beau Volkmann, Kaylee Volkmann, Audrey Miller, Abby Richards, Andrew Richards, Tatum Jensen, Joshua Schmitt, Tyler Botts, Kolby Botts, Nikki Botts, Ashley Botts, Cameron Tatman, Jayden Tatman, Trevor Botts; great great grandsons Stone Jensen, Grady Volkmann, Gage Volkmann, Oliver Miller; brother Robert Miller of Sonora, California; many other family and friends.
