Obituary

VALLEY CENTER, KS - Shirley Lorraine "Lori" (Thompson) Horn, 52, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. She was born to Don Thompson and Janet (Sothman) Thompson in Greenfield, Iowa. The only girl among four brothers (Dean, Brian, Stuart and Glendon), she lived on a farm near Elliott, Iowa until age nine when her family moved to Elkhead, Missouri. The most important day in her life occurred in 1971 when she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and devoted her life to Him. She never doubted her salvation; she knew to the very end that Christ was faithful to her. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Marshfield (MO) High School and Summa Cum Laude from Southwest Missouri State on December 18, 1981. The day after graduating with her social work degree, she married her best friend, Dr. Russell R. Horn. After Russ graduated from medical school in Kansas City, Missouri, Russ and Lori moved to Wichita, Kansas where Lori worked for the Social Security Administration, and Russ finished his internship and started his family practice in Valley Center. Russ and Lori raised four beautiful children, Ellen (married to Nathan Jacobberger), Kimberly (married to Jacob Wallace), Katherine and William. Blessed by God with their first grandchild, Eric Nathan Jacobberger, on December 23, 2011, her greatest wish was that her children and grandchildren would go on to honor and serve the Lord. During her life, Lori devoted her time and energy to spreading the care and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. She lead several home Bible studies, was a part of Mom's in Prayer, taught Sunday School and partnered with Russ to lead the Northside Bible Chapel youth group for almost 20 years. No one can know the number of people she touched in her short time here on earth. She kept the same Bible that she received when she was 12 and read it every day. On her final day, this Bible was opened to Revelation 21, which contains the following verse: "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (v.4) We look forward to the day of Christ's return and to seeing her smiling face again in glory. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 23, at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Northside Bible Chapel, 4510 E. 61st St. N., Kechi, Ks. Graveside will follow the service at Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Northside Bible Chapel Youth Group, P.O. Box 242, Valley Center, KS 67147. Arrangements by Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center. www.bakerfhvc.com
