Lester Walter Carey passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024 in Newton Kansas. He was born in Sunnydale, Kansas to Walter and Jessie (Brown) Carey on September 5,1934. Lester was a graduate of Valley Center High School. He worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, farming and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn of 65 years, parents, sisters Carol Smith and Doris Bretz.

Lester is survived by his children Craig (Ina) of Texico, New Mexico. Julee (Steve) Mellinger of Maize Ks, Kevin (Lenora) of Valley Center; his grandchildren Louie Delgado, Kelly (Hector) Hernandez, Jody Carey, Jamie (Richard) Broome, Scott (Hillary) Mellinger, Matt (Amanda) Mellinger, Brett (Erika) Mellinger, Kylee (Brian) Velo, Zacarey (Amanda) Carey, Sam (Jessie) Carey, Dustin Carey; 33 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren; sister Joan House; many other family and friends.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm on Friday, January 12, 2024 and Services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2024, both held at The First United Methodist Church, 560 N. Park, Valley Center, Kansas. Graveside following at the Sunnydale Park Cemetery, Valley Center, Kansas.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Faith Home Health and Hospice.
