Anderson, Leslie Wayne (Les), 62, was a relentless champion for his family, the Valley Center community, Wichita State University journalism students and community newspapers. He was a dedicated journalism professor at Wichita State since 1977. Les was publisher of the award-winning Ark Valley News that he and wife, Nancy, founded in May, 1975, until it was sold in 2001. He worked for five newspapers, including the Wichita Eagle and the Wichita Sun. His passions included volunteering at the Lord's Diner, his church and fundraising for the new Valley Center library. Les was born Nov. 23, 1948, in Viola and died Nov. 12, 2011. Preceded in death by father, Delbert Anderson. Survived by wife, Nancy of Valley Center; mother, Marceille Sult of Valley Center; brothers, Dan of Houston, Gary (Vicki) of Valley Center, John (Kelly) of Wichita; sister, Debbie (Brad) Edwards of Valley Center; children and families, Spike (Kristin, Emma and Isaac), Maggie (Mike, Joey and Tommy) Spratt, Ben (Jamie, Abby, Katie, Charlie and Samantha) of Valley Center, Seth (Julie, Sydney and Kelsey) of Andover, and Patrick Vera of Wichita; half-brothers James and Doug of Wichita; half-sisters LaDonna Smith and Kristy Anderson of Wichita.
