Lenore (Stephenson)
Welch
January 28, 2021
Lenore Della (Stephenson) Jordan Welch, 98 years of age, beloved mom and grandmother fell asleep on January 28th, 2021 to await the return of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. She was born at Adrian, Missouri, to David and Leona Stephenson, on May 9, 1922. Lenore enjoyed farm life: chickens, vegetable and flower gardens, riding her horse, Bessy, bringing in the cows. She spent time under and in the big tree in their yard. She was allowed and encouraged to explore nature and very much loved the beauty of the outdoors.
She graduated from Adrian High School and wanted to go to art school in Kansas City. But her parents sent her to York College in York, Nebraska. There she met Andy Isaac Jordan. They were married May 1, 1942. To this union were seven children: Andelyn, David, Jane, Margaret, Stephanie, Stephen, and Jonathan. Andy was a research chemist, then attended seminary and was assigned a church. He ministered about ten years. His next career was at Coleman Company in Wichita, Kansas. He continued living in Maize, Kansas, until he passed.
Lenore learned to cook in college Home Ec. After lots of practice (she would re-name the mistakes and serve them anyway!) she became a gourmet cook even over a campfire! Lenore was the homemaker, raising the seven children. She also managed to take art lessons! She specialized in oil painting and has many beautiful portraits and landscapes. Andy did photography and Lenore taught art lessons at their Hobby Studio in Maize, Kansas.
Lenore has taken two trips to the Holy Land. She met William Welch and they were married … They built a solar home, from scratch, in Arabella, New Mexico, and lived there many years. After Bill passed, Lenore stayed in their home, built a stable and bought two horses! She met Kenneth Gay and they were married August 20, 2009. They moved to Wichita, Kansas, where most of her children lived. After Ken passed, she continued to hostess the Bible Study fellowship in her home until she took her last breath, January 28, 2021. What a great life!!!
She was preceded in death by her parents David and Leona Stephenson; husbands, Andy Isaac Jordan, William Welch and Ken Gay; sister Margaret Stephenson and brother David Stephenson II; sons David Ensign Jordan, Bruce Welch, and daughter Jane Belinda Musson Jordan; grandson Derrick Allan Miller, granddaughters Lindsay Jordan and Jacqueline Anne Fernandez.
Lenore is survived by her children Andelyn Smith, Margaret Brower, Stephanie Reimer, Stephen Jordan, Jonathan Jordan, Warren Welch and Pam Krempp; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at the Elmira Cemetery, Beloit, Kansas. Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com
