Lavon Augusta (Thomas) Black, 87, passed away, Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Wichita, Kansas. She was born in rural Halstead, Harvey County, Kansas to Thurman C. Thomas and Emma Louise (Minor) Thomas. She was a graduate of Halstead High School. After graduation she was married on March 9, 1947 in Halstead, Kansas to the love of her life, Leslie "Leon" Black. She spent most of her life enjoying her family and working the farm with her husband Leon. She also had worked as a transcriptionist at the Halstead Hospital. Lavon is survived by her son and daughter-in-laws, Richard and Shannon Black of Sedgwick, and Starla Black; grandchildren, Wendy Black, Heather Clevenger, Arrena (Adam) Rodriguez, Kristen (Nick) Black-Nolte, Shauna Black, Jessie (Corey) Brock; great grandchildren, Logen Clevenger, Avi Rodriguez, Bram Rodriguez, Mason Nolte, Jolie Brock and Parker Brock; many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon Black and her son John Black. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3 at the Bentley United Methodist Church, 134 N. Wichita, Bentley, Kansas. Burial at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley, Ks. Memorials may be designated in her memory to Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, Ks 67202.
