LAVANNA 'LOU'  D.  HELM-LUCERO , was born September 24, 1951 to Doyle and Dorothy (Shufelberger) Whitteker, in McPherson Kansas. She is the eldest of 3, Martin and Bellyn Whitteker. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1969. She attended some college before having 3 children: Shannon Shawn & Chane. She was a hard worker and held jobs at Pizza Hut, Hardee's, Femco, John's Manville, Truck driver, Beechcraft, Central plastics, and Pleasant View nursing home 2018. She excelled in all her jobs to management or quality control positions. She retired from Pleasant View. She also was known to volunteer at senior center and was on the board of mcds in the 70s. She loved life and those around her, especially loved fishing and camping and puzzle books and she was definitely a bookworm. She met Jerry 1996 playing pool at local pool hall. In which the began their life together and added four children Lisa, Leslie, Jeremiah, and Amanda.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Lucero of Inman KS; brother Martin Whitteker of GA and sister Bellyn Whitteker of MO; her children, Shannon Spear, Chane (& Brittney) Helm, Lisa (& Jeremy) Shapiro, Leslie Lucero, Jeremiah (& Maxine) Lucero, Amanda (& Micah); grandchildren, Lara Nix, Jackie Gilby, Lindsey Gilby, Nicholas Houghton, Jade Alexander Spear, Joscelyn Helm, Savannah (& Ben) Wild, Aspen Pryor, Daytona Doty-Helm, Otto Dennet, Logan Shapiro, & Jace Lucero; great grandchildren, Kade Lee, Daelyn Willis, Lyric Smiley, & 2 on the way; five nephews with several children; many other family and friends.  She was preceded by her father Doyle Whitteker in 1990, mother Dorothy (Shufelberger) Whitteker in 2004, her son Billy Shawn Buss in 2015, and granddaughter Clara Daun Pierce in 1995.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, at the Girl Scout Cabin, Lakeside Park, McPherson, Kansas. Condolences may be left for the family at  www.bakerfhvc.com
