Larry Wayne Tormey, 68, of Valley Center, Kansas passed away on July 17th 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 1st 1957 to Marion Robert "Bob" Tormey and Roberta Tormey (Carnahan). He was a lifelong Valley Center resident, graduating from Valley Center High School in 1975. Shortly after high school he began a career in public safety. Larry served his community as a Valley Center Reserve Police Officer, Sedgwick County 911 Dispatcher and Supervisor and a Valley Center Dispatcher, Volunteer Firefighter, and Assistant Fire Chief. In 2016, Larry retired, closing out four decades worth of public service to his community.

Although he enjoyed his career, he found the greatest joy in watching old westerns, being an avid reader and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Roberta Tormey.

Larry is survived by his daughter Malissa Tormey and son Josh Tormey (Erin) and his grandchildren: Alexa and Camden. Siblings Lonnie Tormey, Rob Tormey, Lori McComas (Ron), Rod Tormey (Julie) and 9 nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am, July 28th at Valley Center Cemetery. A reception will follow at Valley Rec-Park Ave Office 117 N. Park Valley Center, Ks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Valley Center Fire Department, 616 E. 5th St, Valley Center Kansas 67147 or to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice 313 S. Market, Wichita Kansas 67202.
