Obituary

Larry R. Martin of Hesston, Kansas was born December 31, 1937 and passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015.  Larry was born in Minot, ND to Earl and Sylvia Martin, the fourth of six children. He was preceded in death by brothers Roy Martin,Glade Martin, nephew Chad Martin and brother-in-law Marlyn Bontrager.  He is survived by his wife, Donna (Bontrager) Martin; daughter Torrie Martin and grandson Holden Brubaker of Lancaster, PA; son Kendall and daughter-in-law Deborah (Maust) Martin of Glendale, AZ; son Kirby and daughter-in-law Darcie (Messerli) Martin of Hesston, KS and grandsons Chase Martin and Brock Martin, Kansas City, MO.   He is also survived by his sister Gladene Martin, Hesston, KS, brother Delvin and sister-in-law Margaret Martin of Glendale, AZ, brother Kermit and sister-in-law Patricia Martin of Atwater, CA, sister-in-law Alice Martin of Goshen, IN and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry grew up on a farm and attended Nedrose Elementary School, Surrey High School and graduated from Hesston College Academy, Hesston, KS in 1956. Larry graduated from Reich American School of Auctioneering, Mason City, IA. He and Donna were married in 1957. Larry worked for several years as a livestock auctioneer then farmed with Donna near Minot, ND for 38 years. He also became a sales manager and a national motivational speaker for Conklin Company, Shakopee, MN for 30 years. In 1995 Larry and Donna moved to Hesston and Larry worked as Development Officer for Hesston College 1999 to 2013. Throughout his life, Larry volunteered in many ways. He served on the American Farm Bureau Wheat Commodity Board, representing the state of North Dakota, 1979-1982.  He served on the Hesston College Board of Overseers, 1984-1992. He volunteered and auctioneered for the Mennonite Central Committee Upper Midwest Relief Sale, Minot, ND for 31 years. Since 2012, Larry volunteered on the North American Relief Sale Board, Central States Region, and enjoyed auctioneering at many relief sales.

Larry attended Hesston Mennonite Church. To celebrate and remember his life, there will be a time of family visitation on Saturday, August 22, 6-8 p.m. and a memorial service on Sunday, August 23, at 3 p.m. at Hesston Mennonite Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated to Hesston College nursing department scholarships.
