Obituary

Juanita (Hutchens) Purkey , age 105, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.  She was born southeast of  Plainfield, Indiana to John Edgar Hutchens and Martha Ann (Dorsett) Hutchens.  In early 1920's the family moved to Kansas. On March 2, 1935 she married the love of her life, Victor Gerald Purkey. They made their home on the farm northwest of Valley Center, Kansas ever since.

Juanita was a very hard worker at home, on the farm and also as a riveter for Beechcraft. She also worked at Buck's Department Store as a shipping clerk.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband Victor G. Purkey, daughter Vicky L., son-in-law CJ Barber, parents Edgar and Martha Hutchens, siblings Edward Raymond Hutchens, James Howard Hutchens, George Vestal Hutchens and Nellie Isbelle Fry; and many other family as well.  She is survived by nieces, nephews, many other family and  friends.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be designated in her memory to  Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 3313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at the Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kansas.  A private graveside where she will be laid to rest by her husband and family at Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, Kansas.
