Obituary

JOSEPH LESTER NEWTON, 'JOE' of Park City resident for 58 years, passed away the first day of spring, March 20th, 2017. Joe was a nature lover his entire life. For many years he was a Master Rosarian, Judge and member of the Wichita Rose Society. At 77 years old he walked over 1300 miles on the Appalachian Trail where he earned his trail name "Wonderlost". An adventure that made one of the biggest impressions of his life and that gained the admiration of all who knew him. Joe will be remembered by all his siblings, children, grandchildren and friends as a man who led a life of many adventures with many interesting stories to tell. He worked for 46 years where he was a lythographer at Edwards Typographical Service, he served in the U.S. Army and was proud last year to have participated in his Honor Flight, and was a member of the Valley Center Ward of Church of the Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Catherine; son Tracy Newton; daughter Frances Ruse; brother Johnnie Lee Newton; parents John and Bessie Newton. Survived by daughters Karen Newton, Dana Walden (Dan); grandsons Jeff Ruse, Drake Walden, Drew Walden; sister Barbara (Norman) Stiles (Wichita), Col. George (Eva Rose) Newton (Fall Brook, CA). Memorials may be designated in his memory to his Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints, 528 W. Fifth, Valley Center, Ks 67147. Visitation is 5-7 pm, Friday, March 24 at Baker Funeral Home Valley Center. Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25 at Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, 528 W.
