SEDGWICK - McCoskey, John C., 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Sedgwick on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was surrounded by his children and Karen, his wife of 49 years. He was a longtime employee of Coleman/Evcon/York/Johnson Controls in Wichita and retired after 40 years. John was born September 13, 1940 in Severy, Kansas and lived his younger years in Wichita. He graduated in the first graduating class of 1958 at Southeast High School. He married Karen in 1964 and moved to Sedgwick, Kansas in 1969. He spent his free time enjoying golf, fishing and attempting to beat his family at card games. Always a practical joker, others were drawn to him by his whit and humor. John is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Harold, Roy, Harry and Melvin. Survivors include his wife, Karen; sons Terry (Carmen) McCoskey of Alice, Texas and Gilbert McCoskey of Newton; daughters Kelly (Greg) Huxman of Hesston and Donita (Norman) Retz of Sedgwick; sisters Mildred Johnson and Thelma (Harold) Allen of Wichita, Cora Sumner of Independence and Nadine (Roy) Cramner of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Grandchildren include Amaria (Josh) Young of Claytonville, Illinois; 1Lt Bryan (2Lt Francesca) McCoskey of El Paso, Texas; Jessica (Trenton) Lowe of Rancho Cucamonga, California; Renee (Christian) Boydo of Wichita; Ashley McCoskey of Winfield; Adam Retz and Andrea Retz of Wichita. Great-grandchildren are Landon Young, Claytonville, Illinois; Michael and Aspen Boydo of Wichita and Daelyn Davis of Winfield. Visitation on Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 PM at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center. A private family graveside service on Friday, April 12 at 10AM, at Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
