Berry, John Robert , 96, retired Berry's Hardware Owner, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was born at home in Valley Center, Kansas to Lester 'Doc' Robert Berry and Martha Fern (Conine) Berry. On January 28, 1939, he married the love of his life, Margaret Louise DeVore. He entered the service and was a U. S. Navy and World War II Veteran, John was a Valley Center Volunteer Fireman, a Mason and a member of the American Legion Post. John and Margaret both were pilots and loved flying, often taking weekend trips with their family. John and Margaret had the Berry Hardware Store and retired in the 1980's. In 2005 they were the Grand Marshalls for the Valley Center Fall Festival. John is survived by his daughters Linda Pientok and Kathie Rabe and her husband Jim; 9 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Dennis and Judy Brunhoeber; sister-in-law Jean Emerson; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Margaret Berry, his son John Richard Berry, sister Ruth E. Lovett, brother Rex W. Berry, parents Lester and M. Fern Berry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in his memory to the Masonic Lodge 142, 106 E. Broadway, Newton, Kansas 67114. Services 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, Baker Funeral Home, 100 S.
