Bates, John Laroy, 67, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born in Wichita, Kansas to Alvie R. Bates and Delores (Orth) Bates. He was a graduate of Heights High School. John is survived by his wife Teri Bates; daughters, Tara Flores and husband Miguel, Jessica Fleeman and husband Brian; grandchildren, Jacob Fleeman, Grace Fleeman, Rachel Flores, Dexter Fleeman, Beau Fleeman, Samuel Flores, Mattilin Fleeman; father Alvie Bates; brothers Robert Bates, Jerry Bates and Billy Bates; sisters Barbara Watkins and Linda McGinty; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife Rita Bates and mother Delores Bates. Visitation 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, at Baker Funeral Home, 100 S. Cedar, Valley Center, Kansas. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 15, at Grace Presbyterian, 5002 E. Douglas, Wichita. Memorials may be designated to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N.
