Steele, Jerry Richard, 78, retired Crawford-Miller Mortuary Owner and Funeral Director passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He was born in Freeport, Illinois to Richard Delos Steele and Virginia (Weiler) Steele. The family made the move to Kansas in 1947. Jerry was a 1954 graduate of Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army for three years. In 1962, he graduated from the Worsham Mortuary College. On March 1, 1962 in Wheaton, Illinois, he married the love of his life Irene Carlson. They moved to Lyons, Kansas where they owned and operated the Crawford–Miller Mortuary. In 1987 they moved to Sterling, Kansas and then in 2012 to Cheney, Kansas. Jerry is survived by his wife Irene; children Victoria (Larry) Cadena of Overland Park, Tammy (Kenny) Unruh of Latham, Kimberly (Bill) White of Champion, NE, Kathy (Bob) Swartz of Turpin, OK, Jody (Steven) Little of Pratt; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his grandson Christopher Swartz, and his parents Richard and Virginia Steele. Private Family Services will be held.
