Jerry Dean Johnston
, 72, passed away on May 16, 2017 in Wichita after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born Dec 25, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas to John Dean Johnston and Wilma Norrine (Kramer) Johnston. Jerry spent 6 years in the U. S. Marine Corps with deployments to Okinawa and Vietnam. He retired from IBM after 42 years as a Senior Engineer in Tucson, AZ. He volunteered most of his life in Public Safety, first as a Reserve Officer for the Wichita Police Dept., then as a Reserve Deputy with the Sedgwick County Sheriffs Dept. In Tucson he spent many years with the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, Pima County Search & Recovery Divers and with Southwest Rescue Dogs Inc. He was an avid scubadiver and outdoorsman & loved his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma N. Johnston, father, John D. Johnston and brother, Michael D. Johnston. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Paula) Johnston and Christopher Johnston, grandsons, Justin and Dylan Dreiling, Michael Johnston Jr, Zachary Johnston and Tower Johnston of Wichita and granddaughter Isabelle Johnston of Tucson.
