Obituary

VALLEY CENTER,   KANSAS

JAMES  EDWARD  TRUMAN, SR.     'JIM' , 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his home.  He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on November 3, 1931 to Addison Marion Truman and Hariet Mae (Scofield) Truman.  He was raised in the Wichita area and a graduate of North High School where he was a varsity diver and swimmer.  On June 30, 1952, at All Saints St. Joseph Catholic Church, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Mary Giefer Truman. They were blessed in this union with ten children. He worked for 27 years at Cudahay Meats, bartended for a short time, worked at Christopher Steel, then retired as a Boeing Aircraft Machinist. He was an Army and Korean War Veteran, serving from 1952 to 1954, honorably discharged in 1960. Jim enjoyed so many things in life, like helping and supporting his wife and children. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was also an avid bowler and card player. Being an only child, he loved being a part of a large family enjoying family reunions and gatherings. He is preceded in death by his first and only true love of 65 years, Liz. He was also preceded by his daughter-in-law Vicki Truman and his parents. Jim is survived by his children, Jet (Debbie) Truman of Valley Center, Dan (Beth) Truman of Great Falls, MT, Chris (Diane) Truman of Valley Center, Sheri (Albert) Cagle of Douglass, Wayne (Jerri) Truman of Valley Center, Tom (Jane) Truman of Kechi, Sheila (Jay) Hess of Valley Center, Pat (Paula) Truman of Belton, MO, Mike (Sarah) Truman of Wichita and Shelli (David) McElfresh of Emporia; 37 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren; many other family and friends.
Visitation 6 pm, Rosary 7 pm, Thursday, July 26; Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m., Friday, July 27, all held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 3130 N. Amidon, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside following the service at the Valley Center Memorial Cemetery, Valley Center, Kansas. Memorials may be designated in Jim's memory for Hunter Education and Take Me Fishing to KDWPT (Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks) Attn: Wild Trust, 512 SE 25 th Ave, Pratt, Ks 67124.
