Thompson, James Wesley, 86, passed away Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. Born Oct. 23, 1927, in Augusta, Kan., the son of T.B. "Jack" and Ida Belle Thompson. James was an independent petroleum geologist and a member of both AAPG and KGS for over 50 years. He married the love of his life, Barbara Sweeney Thompson on Nov. 1, 1949. She survives along with their three children, Mark (Nell) of Wichita, Robbie (Traci) of Council Grove, and Laura (Jeff) Tuttle of Wichita; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Elsie Lehr of Augusta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Arthur Thompson; and sisters, Dorothy Smitherman, Evelyn Thompson, and Margaret Neeley. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, First Christian Church, 1600 State St., Augusta, Kan. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Alzheimer's Association , 1820 E.
