James
Runyan
May 2, 2019
NEWTON, KANSAS
JAMES ANDREW RUNYAN , born December 23, 1934 in Silverdale, Kansas to Carl and Marion Runyan. Jim attended Arkansas City, Kansas schools and began a career with Santa Fe Railroad at the age of 16. He married Gloria Young in 1952 and together they had 5 children. Jim retired from the railroad at age 62. Gloria passed away in June of 2009. Jim married Carol Ogan in 2013 in Newton and they enjoyed 6 years of friends, family and activities together.
Jim loved his family and that was his main focus in life. He was never happier in his last years than when he was playing with or listening to his grandsons play guitar, watching a KU basketball game or Chiefs football game with Carol, friends and family, jamming with bluegrass enthusiasts, or just getting together with family or friends for a holiday or dinner out.
He very much enjoyed vintage autos and items, pool tournaments at the senior centers in the area, his big Ariens mower, and keeping friends and family's yards trimmed. Most important to him, though, was being with, encouraging, and helping his loved ones.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Rahn formerly of Arkansas City, Ks, wife Gloria, son Tony, and daughters April and Gina. He is survived by his wife Carol; 2 children, Diana Standing (Karl) and Darren Runyan (Tammy); 5 grandchildren, Alex Thacker, Tyler Thacker, Caden Runyan, Shaylynn Runyan and Lance Tuttle; 4 great grandchildren, Carter Thacker, Ana Thacker, Lilly Tuttle and Adysson Tuttle.
