J. MARIE (HARTZELL) HOPKINS, 73 , our beloved mother was called home to the kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, May 30, 2017. She was born in Medicine Lodge, Kansas to Kenneth and Freda (Hamilton) Hartzell. There were no doctors available, so she was born in the tiny home, built in the side of a hill belonging to her grandparents Fred and Mamie Hamilton. She attended the schools in Medicine Lodge and graduated from the High School on May 21, 1961. She enrolled in the Fall into the School of Nursing located in Halstead, Kansas. While attending the training, she met the man she would later marry in June, 1964. After graduation, she became a nurse at Bethel Deaconess Hospital located in Newton, Kansas. In August 1965 she was blessed with her first daughter, then a son in 1967, then another daughter in 1970. Marie is survived by her sister Evelyn Jonson of Mulvane, her son Greg Hopkins of Wichita, her daughter Cheryl Ericson and husband Adam of Nashville, Tennessee; her grandson Cameron Hopkins of Wichita; many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter Michelle Hopkins, her brother John Mason Hartzell, her parents Kenneth and Freda Hartzell. Private Family Services have been held.
