Obituary

Homer Ray Hammond, 74 passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Wichita, Kansas. Homer was born April 25, 1946 in Emporia, before relocating with his family to Burlington, where he spent most of his youth, eventually graduating from high school in '64, and enlisting in the National Guard, where he served proudly, for six years. Soon after, he went to work for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, where he spent many years as a 'brakeman' and as Supervisor of Operations until his position was eventually eliminated.

He married Paula Irene Cunningham on Jan. 1st, 1983 and soon after, the couple relocated to Los Angeles, California where Homer spent years working as a security guard while attending DeVry College, earning a degree in 'Applied Sciences'. He was employed by De La Rue, where he spent many years repairing banking machines all over southern California, a job he enjoyed because of the local travel opportunities. Having participated in competitive league bowling for decades, Homer eventually went to work in the bowling industry, both in California, as well as in Kansas after relocating later in life, to be closer to family. (Homer DID bowl a perfect 300 on one occasion) He loved to bowl, and made many friends through the sport, over the years. Homer had many hobbies, of which his favorites were: bowling, aerial photography, & deep sea fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Herbert Floyd & LaVena Mae (McCulloch) Hammond, and a son, Jerry Ray Hammond, from a previous marriage.  He is survived by Paula, his wife of 37 years, as well as one son Jason (Angie) Mueller, a stepson Kevin (Sheila) Kinkelaar, four grandchildren Jase Mueller, Jerica Mueller, Lindsey Kinkelaar, & Laney Kinkelaar, three sisters Carol Shepard, Donna Ratzlaff, & E. Dayle Fischer.

Memorial Service will be held, date to be determined.
