WICHITA, KANSAS

GLEN D. LEWIS, 85, passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2018. He was born in rural McIntosh, Oklahoma to Ellis J. Lewis and Ida (Marshall) Lewis. He grew up around the Eufaula, Oklahoma area in a Muscogee Creek Tribal Indian family learning sports and stomp dances. He was active in all kinds of sports and games. He loved going to the Tribe's stomp dances and even leading the songs. Many people remember Glen's long black hair worn in 2 braids. He loved to travel. He traveled while in the Army and took Emily on many trips around the United States from Main (during the coldest part of the year – which created many stories) to Hawaii. Glen loved to draw cartoons of people and hand it to them. He would also draw a cartoon of the waiter/waitress on his napkin and leave it with the tip. Glen also drew cartoons for his hometown Tribal paper for a period of time. He moved to Wichita, Kansas after serving in the Army during the early 1960's. He worked at Hawker Beechcraft and retired after 35 years. He was known as 'Hacksaw' Lewis to many of his co-workers. Glen served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. He used to be active in the VFW for many years. Volunteering or being volunteered to call out Bingo numbers. When asked if he wanted to play Bingo, he would tell us "I've called out so many Bingo numbers, I don't want to play Bingo anymore." However, he changed his mind and played in later years. He always enjoyed taking time and being with his family. He is survived by his wife Emily Lewis of Newton, Kansas and her children: Terisa (Robert) Garrison of Keenesburg, Colorado, Phil Boyd of Derby, Kansas, Kathy (Jeff) Trimble of Valley Center, Kansas, Steve Boyd of Wichita, Kansas and Yvette (Bryant) Tallant of Iola, Kansas, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Ellis and Ida Lewis, brothers Legus Lewis, Solis Lewis, Washie Lewis, Charles Lewis, Garfield Lewis and a sister Marie (Lewis) Lyons, and son-in-law Gordon (Yvette) Robb. Service will be held 2:00 p.m., April 27, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 1208 N. College, Winfield, Kansas. Condolences may be left for the family at www.bakerfhvc.com
