Devoted Brother, Husband, Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father and Uncle
Glen D. Buchanan, age 84, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 1st, 2025, at his Wichita home with his beloved family by his side. He was born August 6th, 1940, in Stark, Kansas, to Garnett Buchanan and Bonnie (Phillippi) Buchanan.
Glen was a native Kansan born in the small town at Stark, KS. He spent many seasons of his life in and around the Wichita, KS area. Graduating from Valley Center, HS- Class of 1958. Shortly after graduating he joined the United States Air Force and making rank of Staff Sargant. Being awarded several awards, medals and earning several certificates. Glen also was top player of the Volleyball team in the United States Air Force. Glen wasted no time starting a family with Connie Hatfield as they welcomed their first child Sandra in Feb. 1959 and second child Danny in Feb. 1960; all while he was in the United States Air Force. Glen was stationed in multiple cities and countries including Danang, Vietnam, Okinawa, Japan. The family made the travels with him during his 12 years of service in the United States Air Force.
After returning from his service he returned to Wichita, Kansas area to raise his children and continued his education where he received his bachelor's degree at Wichita State University. Glen then began his career as a licensed plumber where he owned and contracted his own company. Glen worked hard at building his company and teaching others about plumbing and contracting and building their own companies.
Glen then met Sara Lancaster in 1987 and married her in 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Glen and Sara traveled and started a new journey in life in Roseburg, Oregon, here he lived and built an amazing life with the "Love of his life" Sara, who also had a son Derek Lancaster whom Glen adored.
Glen enjoyed playing/watching volleyball, traveling, stock and modified car racing. He would travel all over to watch the races. He was a fan of many sports, especially KU Jayhawk's and Oregon Ducks.
Glen lost Sara the love of his life to cancer in 2007. He then started a new journey and moved back to Kansas to live where his Family is located.
Glen is an amazing man who would do anything for anyone. He also was a man who would tell you how it was and had a mouth from the south. He played a tough guy roll but had a HEART OF GOLD.
Glen is preceded in death by his wife Sara (LOVE OF HIS LIFE), parents Garnett Buchanan and Bonnie Phillippi, brothers Gary Buchanan, David Buchanan, sister Donna Manning, sister-in-laws Lori Buchanan, Gerri Buchanan, and niece Jenny Lecy.
Glen is survived by his brother Ed Buchanan, sister Mona Defore, children, Sandra Smith, Danny Buchanan, grandchildren: (FAVORITE) Felisha (Mike) Farris, Ron Smith Jr., Robert Smith, Dakota (Jay) Bucanan, Lexie Buchanan, great grandchildren Marissa Smith, Xavier Spone, Zander Farris and Kaydence Farris, m any more relatives and friends.
At Glen's request, arrangements with Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center, Kansas. He would like a ceremony in Oregon and Celebration of life.
Memorial Services will be at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 1208 N College Street, Winfield, Kansas 67156 on Friday, March 28th, 2025 at 3:00 pm. Oregon TBA and Celebration of Life TBA at services in March 2025.
