Johnson, Eleanor May (Basore), 91, retired bank teller, Valley Center High School secretary 1966-1976, homemaker, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, danced into heaven on Friday, August 19, 2011. She was born in Valley Center, Kansas to Earl Simpson Basore and Olive May (Hohman) Basore. Eleanor grew up in Valley Center and was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. She attended college at Southwestern College in Winfield, Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri, and Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas. Eleanor married the love of her life, Lee Johnson on January 9, 1944. They lived a short time in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Pratt, Kansas before returning to build a home in Valley Center, where they lived the rest of their lives until she moved to Larksfield on April 11, 2008. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Leland Johnson, who died on June 12, 1992; her parents; sisters, Marian Schwint and Earlene Houts; brothers, John Basore and Jean Basore; brother-in-laws, Al Schwint, Lloyd Houts, Joe Leighty; sister-in-laws, Mary Basore, Diane Basore, Georgianna Leighty and Alma Jean Barnes; and niece, Marjean Spear. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Olivia and son-in-law, Tony Wilbur; grandchildren, Wade Wilbur of Bucyrus, Ks, and Leah Alpers and husband Tyler of Hudson; great grandchildren, Braxton and Easton Alpers; brother, Jim Basore of Denver, CO and brother-in-law, Jack Barnes. Service 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, at First United Methodist Church, Valley Center. A private burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Bentley, Kansas.
