Baxter, Doris Irene (Faulkner), 96, retired Shangri-La Resort employee, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012. She was born in Coffeyville, Kansas to Leo Faulkner and Laura May (Shearer) Faulkner. She was a graduate of the Class of 1933 from Field Kinley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. After high school, Doris met and married Lisle Jarman in May, 1936. Two children were born of this union, Letha Ann Ritter and Darrell Jarman. Her husband joined the Armed Services in 1942. During that same year, Doris attended McFarland Trade School in Coffeyville to learn welding. After completing her training, Doris moved to Wichita with her two children to begin work at Boeing as a welder. In 1945, Lisle and Doris were divorced. Doris met and married Floyd Baxter in 1946. To this union, a son, Gary Joe Baxter was born. Doris continued to work for many years before retiring in 1998 at the age of 83 from the Shangri-La Resort in Grove, Oklahoma, after 34 years of service. After retirement, Doris moved to Valley Center to be closer to her family. During her retirement, she enjoyed spending her time reading, sitting on her porch, taking walks and spending weekends with her daughter, Letha, and granddaughter, Vicki Chenoweth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Baxter in 1988, her son, Gary in 2003 and daughter Letha Ritter in 2008. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Barbara Jarman, 9 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren.
