Donna (Worthan)
Hammons
October 26, 2020
Donna Hammons, age 89, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Newton, Kansas. She was born in Dunnegan, Missouri to Richard Claypool Worthan and Linnie (Ellsworth) Worthan. She was a lifelong resident of Dunnegan, where she attended Rock School, a one room school house in the wooded countryside. She was a graduate and valedictorian of Fair Play High School. After graduation she married her long time friend, Wendel Hammons, May 22, 1949. Most of her working years were with Macy's and Dillard's Dept. Stores. She became a store manager with Macy's in 1959 and held that position through 1979 as well as manager of Dillard's at Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her hobbies were gardening, sewing and working as a Hospice volunteer. She loved her church family and teaching Sunday School. But her greatest love was her family and spending time together.
She is survived by her only son Alan and his wife Carole, her only grandson, Daniel Hammons and his wife, Kirsten, two wonderful grandchildren, Tyler Hammons and Abby Hammons, her brother R.C. Worthan of Kansas City, Missouri, and her sister Iris Willard of Springfield, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Wendel and parents Richard and Linnie Worthan.
